LYLE KIRK - WALKING GROUP

LYLE KIRK WALKING GROUP        -      2019   PROGRAMME

Over the last few years a number of our regular attenders have experienced more difficulties with the distance and inclines involved in the walks which were undertaken in the past. After our planning meeting this year and taking account of the views expressed the programme this year has shorter travelling distances and is centred round trips to particular places or areas which will give a choice of walks, short or longer, but also give an opportunity for those who would enjoy a day out in company to join with the group. All the outings this year are on Saturdays leaving from Newark Street at 9a.m. with transport by car.  There has never been any difficulty in accommodating those who do not have a car available themselves and new members are very welcome.

Notes
1. Transport is by car.  Do not hesitate to come along if you do not have a car available or are not comfortable with driving to the start of the walk. The walks are divided between whole day trips on Saturdays and half-days on Sundays. On Sundays the starting point is Newark Street at 12.45 after the 11a.m. service. On Saturdays we have decided to remain with our traditional meeting point at the East end of the Esplanade at Campbell Street where there is always ample parking for sorting out cars and leaving those which are not going. People usually bring some food with them for a snack but on the longer full day trips we often stop off somewhere for something light to eat or drink.
2. At the planning meeting there was a general view that we should try to shorten the travelling distances to the start of the walks from previous years and the programme tries to reflect it. A number of members felt that steep gradients were more challenging than formerly and again the programme has sought to take account of this view in the walks proposed. If there are those however either among regular attenders or who do not normally come along who would like to tackle a substantial hill on a one-off basis please let me know and this can be arranged.
3, New members of the group are very welcome and it is not expected that you are committed to coming along on every trip. People come when they are free and the walk interests them. For further information please speak to myself, Jessie McKillop or Robert Todd.
